SOMERSET, NJ May 24 – The Oticon Hearing Foundation in partnership with the American Academy of Audiology Foundation (AAAF) is calling for applications for Project Amazon 2016. This is the sixth year that the Oticon Hearing Foundation has partnered with the AAA Foundation to fund Project Amazon, a humanitarian mission that supports sustainable hearing care for children and adults in impoverished Amazon River communities. The Oticon Hearing Foundation will underwrite costs for one licensed audiologist and one audiology student to travel to Brazil and work side-by-side with staff from the non-profit Oticon Clinic in Parintins.
The 2015 Project Amazon audiologists - Mia Alexandra Canale, a graduate student in audiology at University at Buffalo, SUNY and Lena Marie Kyman, AuD of ENT & Audiology Associates in Raleigh, NC – traveled to the non-profit Oticon Clinic in Parintins, Brazil. The two hearing care professionals worked with Oticon staff to screen in-need children and adults and fit Oticon hearing instruments donated by the Oticon Hearing Foundation.
Apply for Project Amazon through June 15
Audiologists and audiology students who have completed at least two years in an AuD program may submit an application to participate in the program. Applications are available online at https://www.audiologyfoundation.org/education/education.html.
All completed applications received by the June 15 deadline will be reviewed by a committee comprised of AAA Foundation and Oticon Hearing Foundation representatives. The selected audiologist and student will be notified in August.
