West Lafayette, IN The Audiology Foundation of America (AFA) is proud to announce that it has been awarded a $50,000 grant from the Oticon Foundation, also known as the William Demant and Wife Ida Emilie Foundation. The new scholarship initiative will fund two awards of $4,500 each year for the next five years. Each Au.D. Program Director may submit one candidate annually to be considered for the award. The Outstanding Au.D. Student Award has been established to recognize and support the 'best of the best' Au.D. students. It will be awarded to full-time residential students who are entering their third year. 'The Outstanding Au.D. Student Award will serve to encourage Au.D. students in their academic efforts. It will give the winners prestige as well as a major financial boost,' according to Richard Burba, MBA, AFA Treasurer.
The Oticon Foundation, one of the world's oldest foundations, sponsors social and educational programs, research, publications, and conferences for researchers, hearing care professionals and the general public. The Audiology Foundation of America was founded in 1989 as a not-for-profit organization with the mission of transforming audiology to a doctoral profession with the Au.D. as its distinctive designator. This Fall there will be 13 residential and 5 distance education Au.D. Programs. Currently there are nearly 600 Au.D. graduates and over 1000 students enrolled in Au.D. programs.
