SOMERSET, NJ   March 16 – In keeping with Oticon’s commitment to knowledge-sharing events that benefit hearing care professionals and their patients, a team of Oticon audiologists and researchers will contribute their expertise to a variety of education sessions and workshops at AudiologyNOW! 2015.  The Oticon team will engage with the more than 6,000 audiologists expected to attend this year’s conference on topics that focus on hearing science, clinical practice and technology.

“AudiologyNOW! provides an exciting forum to reach thousands of hearing care professionals with new insights, research and technology in an atmosphere that fosters interaction and collaboration,” says Oticon President Peer Lauritsen.  “Oticon is proud to join with subject experts and researchers from around the world to empower hearing care professionals with the knowledge and tools they need to continue to put the needs of people first.”

A series of four 15-minute mini-education sessions offered at the Oticon Booth (#411) throughout the AudiologyNOW! will enable conference participants to earn continuing education credits (0.1 CEU).  Audiology Within Modern Hearing Instruments explores the principles and technologies that support the brain in complex listening environments and compensate for peripheral hearing loss.  Personalization, Expanded Dimensions of Optimizing for Each Individual looks at a unique fitting process that uses more of each individual’s residual capabilities, maximizing patient benefit and satisfaction. BrainHearing™ for Consumers: Effective Counseling equips practitioners to help patients see that Hearing Care is Health Care™ and better appreciate the value of the practitioner in the process.  In a session on Oticon Tinnitus SoundSupport™, participants will discover a new ear-level combination device that offers an array of options for sound therapy and is the first to offer popular ocean sounds.

Douglas BeckDouglas Beck, AuD, Board Certified, F-AAA, Oticon’s Director of Professional Relations will be featured in two educational sessions.  In the Learning Lab: Tinnitus and Sound Sensitivity (Wednesday, March 25   8:30AM – 4:45PM, Room 006C, CEU: 0.7), Dr. Beck will present contemporary peer-reviewed literature from 2008 to 2015 and offer surprising insights into new developments in the understanding of tinnitus and its implications on patient management. As the moderator for the Featured Session: Issues, Advances and Considerations in Cognitive Amplification (Thursday, March 26, Room 217A, CEU: 0.3), Dr. Beck will lead discussion of perspectives, insights, advances, and applications from cognitive sciences to audiology and hearing aid amplification.  Expert presenters will explore cognition and auditory perception and potential and pragmatic applications for treatment of hearing loss with hearing devices.

Thomas BehrensThomas Behrens, MSc, Oticon’s Head of the Centre for Applied Audiology Research, will join researchers from the Cleveland Clinic to present a Poster Session:  Effects of Time of Day and Cognitive Load on Aided Performance (Friday, March 27, 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM).  The session will review the results of a recent study on fatigue and cognitive effort, indicating that aided listening seems to change over the course of a day and higher technology level did positively affect some listening abilities.
