Extensive testing by HIMSA member companies to begin soon
An important milestone is just around the corner for NOAH System 3.6 software.
In June, NOAH System 3.6 will enter the beta testing stage. Nearly 100 HIMSA member companies will have three months to test every detail and function of the software before the planned release later this year.
"Due to the major technology changes in version 3.6," stated Niels Munksgaard, Managing Director of HIMSA, "HIMSA has chosen to have a longer than usual testing period. This will allow our member companies to help ensure that everything functions optimally."
What's New in 3.6?
In NOAH System 3.6, HIMSA will update two key technologies for networking and data storage. .NET networking technology will provide greater reliability, flexibility and Windows compatibility than the current DCOM technology found in NOAH.
NOAH will also switch from its current Microsoft Access database to a larger, 2 gigabyte Microsoft MSDE database. This will allow NOAH System users to storage considerably more client data in the NOAH database, including eTONA electronic orders and ear impression data.
Two gigabyte should be enough for most NOAH users. However, for those who need even more data storage space, NOAH System 3.6 will also provide the option of connecting to a Microsoft SQL Server database, providing unlimited data storage for larger NOAH installations. Microsoft SQL Server can purchased directly from Microsoft or other authorized resellers.
Who Should Upgrade?
Version 3.6 is especially designed for NOAH users with network installations or large amounts of client data.
HIMSA recommends that all NOAH users consider upgrading when version 3.6 becomes available later this year. Please note however that version 3.6 will not support the Windows Me and 98 operating systems.
"Many NOAH System users are happy with their current version of NOAH, and may be reluctant to upgrade," said Munksgaard. "However, version 3.6 will provide them with a number of important improvements that are well worth the upgrade."
In addition, the changes in NOAH System version 3.6 set the foundation for the widespread use of eTONA electronic ordering as manufacturers make it available worldwide.
The best part is that the NOAH 3.6 upgrade is free for all registered NOAH 3 users. Be sure to read the August issue for the latest news on version 3.6.
