The New Jersey Speech and Hearing Association has announced its 2010 convention, with a focus on a world-class audiology program.

The convention will be held May 6-8, 2010, with the audiology sessions on May 7-8, at the Atlantic City Convention Center. This seaside location, on the Atlantic City boardwalk, is within walking distance of shopping, restaurants, and the casinos of Atlantic City.

The audiology program will kick off on Friday, May 7th with the profession's leading expert on infection control, A.U. Bankaitis, Ph.D., from Oaktree Products, Inc., presenting data and practical strategies for ensuring best practices in this area. Mary Ellen Nevins, Ed.D., and Patricia Chute, Ed.D., will discuss educational issues of children with hearing impairment and cochlear implants. Bob Woods, Ph.D., the ASHA Legislative Council member from NJ, will round out Friday's program with an update on audiology issues. On Saturday, Brian Fligor, Sc.D., Director of Diagnostic Audiology at Children's Hospital Boston and Instructor in the Department of Otology and Laryngology at Harvard Medical School, will present the latest research on adolescents and noise-induced hearing loss, followed by Nancy Schneider, M.S., discussing what is new in NJ early hearing detection and intervention. For SLPs or audiologists who do not work with amplification, Carolyn Smaka, Au.D, will present an overview of the latest technology. In addition, the convention's speech-language curriculum features many topics with crossover appeal to audiologists, such as developing leadership and presentation skills, educational issues with Asperger syndrome, and funding school-based programs. The convention also includes a wine and cheese reception on Thursday evening to give attendees time to network with colleagues and exhibitors.

Early-bird registration deadline is March 26, 2010. More information, including a downloadable convention brochure with session abstracts, can be found at www.njsha.org
