The National Hearing Conservation Association (NHCA) Scholarship Foundation is pleased to announce the availability of a limited number of student travel awards for the 2005 NHCA annual conference: Decibels in the Desert - Tucson, Arizona - February 24-26, 2005. A sampling of topics includes: the hearing-impaired individual in noisy workplaces, hearing protector effectiveness, hearing loss prevention for children, the latest research in otoacoustic emissions and otoprotective agents, controversies in medical/legal evaluation of hearing loss, responsible audiometric baseline revision, and regulatory activities in progress for the construction industry and by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency. Numerous opportunities for in-depth workshops, roundtable discussions, and networking activities are also available. The NHCA Student Conference Award includes paid registration to two workshops and the entire annual conference, plus lunches, social activities, and partial reimbursement of travel expenses. The Award is available to individuals who are actively pursuing a graduate degree in a discipline related to hearing conservation and who are enrolled at least half-time in an accredited educational institution. Previous recipients of the NHCA Student Conference Award include masters- and doctoral-level students in audiology, human factors engineering, industrial hygiene, and public health from a variety of universities across the country.

The completed application and one letter of recommendation must be received in the NHCA office by December 1, 2004. Students will be notified of results by January 1, 2005.
