ASHFoundation Launches Site For On-Line Donations

(Rockville, MD -April 12, 2007) The American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation (ASHFoundation) has added a new on-line giving option on its website for tax-deductible donating.

The site provides the flexibility for donations to be made by individuals, corporations, service organizations, or in honor or memory of someone special.

"With this new website on-line giving option, the ASHFoundation continues to improve fundraising efforts so we can increase the size and number of the awards given each year," according to ASHFoundation President Dennis Hampton. "Donations to the Foundation advance the future of the professions by funding a variety of research and educational programs of the ASHFoundation, including student and new investigator research grants, master and doctoral scholarships, and clinical achievement programs."

Since 1946, the ASHFoundation has awarded nearly $3.8 million to nearly 1,500 doctoral and post-doctoral researchers, graduate students, and leaders in the field. Annually, the ASHFoundation disburses approximately $200,000 to help ensure excellence in training for future generations of professionals, support innovative new research, and provide the best possible treatments for the more than 49 million children and adults with a speech, language or hearing disorder.

Yet, perhaps the best way to judge the new on-line giving option and the benefits of the ASHAFoundation is to visit— and make a donation at www.ashfoundation.org/Foundation/donations/DonateOnline.htm. State associations may provide a direct link to the site by copying and pasting www.ashfoundation.org/Foundation/donations/DonateOnline.htm.

Despite the online friendly features, there is still a commitment to a "personal touch" in customer service. Every page of the ASHFoundation website offers a number donors can call for personal service. There is also a quick and easy way for them to email comments. And though ASHFoundation wants people to use the new donation option, it is not ending off-line donations. Like before, donors can still phone, fax, email, and mail tax-deductible donations.

A charitable organization, the American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation promotes a better quality of life for children and adults with communication disorders. Its mission is to advance knowledge about the causes and treatment of hearing, speech, and language problems. The ASHFoundation also raises funds from individuals, corporations, and organizations to support research, graduate education, and special projects that foster discovery and innovation in the field of communication sciences.

The ASHFoundation is affiliated with the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, the national professional, scientific, and credentialing association for more than 127,000 audiologists, speech-language pathologists, and speech, language, and hearing scientists. Audiologists specialize in preventing and assessing hearing disorders as well as providing audiologic treatment including hearing aids. Speech-language pathologists identify, assess, and treat speech and language problems including swallowing disorders.
