Lafayette, IN - The Audiology Foundation of America proudly announces a new scholarship created to honor the memory of Dr. Leo Doerfler. The Leo Doerfler Memorial Scholarship will provide $5000 for an individual with an AuD degree who is enrolled in a PhD program. The scholarship is made possible through memorial gifts given to the AFA to honor Dr. Doerfler. Contributions are still being accepted to add to the fund.
Dr. Doerfler was the second individual to receive a PhD in audiology, the founding president of the American Academy of Audiology, and a founding director of the AFA.
The scholarship program reflects Dr. Doerfler's understanding and commitment to scientific endeavors in audiology, which he felt would be materially strengthened by AuD programs that freed PhD programs to compete in the scientific marketplace. It also exemplifies the goals of the AFA and its commitment to fostering the education and training of audiologists to meet the needs of those with impaired hearing.
