Montclair, NJ, September 24 –- The New Jersey Academy of Audiology’s (NJAA) sixth annual meeting, entitled “Counseling Strategies in Rehabilitative Audiology,” will help audiologist develop individualized auditory training programs for their patients with hearing loss based on their specific communications challenges and lifestyle needs, announced Janet Koehnke, Ph.D, president of NJAA. The event is being held Friday, October 24, 2014, at Montclair State University.
“The development of this conference follows a state-wide survey of audiologists to help determine which topics would provide the most relevant and compelling continuing education experience for our members,” noted Dr. Koehnke. “I am confident that the program planned will not only increase our members’ knowledge-base in rehabilitative audiology, but also to help them better serve their patients in an area of practice that they have identified a one of the most needed.”
The featured speaker is Robert Sweetow, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of California San Francisco and former Director of Audiology at the UCSF Medical Audiology Clinic. Dr. Sweetow is the co-developer of “LACE” (Listening and Communication Enhancement), an interactive adaptive computerized auditory training program. In 2008 he received the Distinguished Achievement Award from the American Academy of Audiology (AAA).
Dr. Sweetow will analyze case studies with attendees and suggest aural rehabilitation methods to best suit various types of lifestyles and hearing impairments, according to Dr. Koehnke.
