The new AURICAL, the world's only complete, modular fitting solution was launched at last year's AudiologyNOW! in Chicago where it drew a lot of attention. This year was no exception when AURICAL HIT was launched - another addition to the future of fitting. Otometrics received a lot of positive reactions from those seeing the fitting solution for the first time. Here is what one professional wrote back to Otometrics after receiving a demonstration of the AURICAL:
Greg Haines, Advanced Hearing Aid Ctr.: "My old real-ear measurement system was inconvenient to use, to say the least. It was slow. It was set-up for one ear at a time. It lacked modern features. I had practically given up on it, when it stopped working altogether. As it turns out, it was probably a blessing in disguise. I had a difficult patient recently, just before leaving for the IHS convention in Boston. While there, I spent most of my time within the exhibit area examining the various new real-ear systems, with this new patient foremost in my mind. I attended as much of the concurrent real-ear seminars as possible, trying to soak in as much as I could, as fast as I could. I came to the conclusion that the AURICAL met my fitting needs more closely than other systems I saw. Back at the office, I invited the local AURICAL representative to come and demonstrate this system, and we did a real-ear measurement on this patient. I was surprised at how quickly and efficiently we navigated from step to step through the fitting process. I learned that the fitting had been perfectly fine in the left ear, but the right ear was far off the mark. Using traditional fitting techniques to discover this information had led me nowhere. Twenty three years' experience diagnosing fitting issues did not disclose the secret. The patient could not tell me it was the right ear that was mis-fit. Somehow, the answer never presented itself until we spent ten minutes with the AURICAL. With a quick adjustment, this patient reported back two days later with no complaints. The AURICAL is a fast and thorough REM system that allows me to move quickly through the fitting process. I like how it shows me if the probe mic. is positioned correctly, and that it shows me if the probe mic. moves out of position when the instrument is inserted. It will verify the "open-ness" of a fit, and who isn't doing some form of "open fit" these days? I also like the ability to do speech mapping, and use the hearing loss simulator as a very nice counseling tool with the third party observer. The speed of this unit is most impressive. The built-in audiometer makes transferring the audiogram data a simple matter. Wireless connections allow freedom of movement as I position the patient. And I can move the lightweight AURICAL anywhere in the office. It's a space-saver and a time saver. And in this case, a fitting saver!"
