Natus Medical Honored By Greater Los Angeles Council On Deafness For Work In Newborn Screening

SAN CARLOS, CA- Natus Medical, Inc., was honored by the Greater Los Angeles Council on Deafness, Inc. (GLAD) with the Innovative Technical Awareness Award. The award was given for the company's ALGO™ Newborn Hearing Screener, a device developed to allow hospitals screen all newborns for hearing loss. The GLAD 2000 Awards Luncheon was held February 24, 2000 at the Regal Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles.

''We are privileged to receive this honor from GLAD,'' said Terri Baker, vice president of marketing, Natus Medical. ''Since the company was founded, Natus has worked hard to emphasize the importance of early detection of hearing loss for the newborn and their family. We have dedicated our time to developing a technology that facilitates such early detection.''

Also honored were the producers and cast of the television show ''ER'' with the Public Awareness Award and the S. Mark Taper Foundation with the Deaf Community Center Appreciation Award. Donald ''Nubby'' Nuemberger was given the Humanitarian Award, Mark Seeger was honored in a special recognition and Regina Spicer-Cromwell was named GLAD Volunteer of the Year.

Since its inception as a volunteer organization in 1969, the Greater Los Angeles Council on Deafness has been improving the lives of the deaf community. GLAD supports culturally competent practices which are designed to maintain the dignity of the individual, encourage self-growth and promote a community spirit of deaf and hearing people working together that transcends hearing loss.
