Washington, DC, January 10, 2011 - The Hearing Industries Association (HIA) announced today that Todd Murray, President of ReSound North America, has assumed the chairmanship of the hearing aid industry's trade association. Murray has served as the Vice Chair of HIA for the past year and as a director of HIA for the past 3 years.
Todd joined the ReSound family in February 2004 as the President of Beltone North America, and expanded his responsibilities to global brands in 2007. Prior to joing the hearing aid industry, Todd worked in the optical industry at Cole National Corporation, with a focus on Business Development, Acquisitions and leading Pearle Vision Operations. Prior to Cole National Corporation, Todd spent several years with Deloitte and Touche in their management consulting practice, and at IBM, where he focused on the Retail and Consumer Product Practice groups. He holds a BA from Brown University and an MBA from the Fuqua School at Duke University.
In accepting the position as HIA Chair of the Board, Todd noted "This is a challenging time for hearing aid manufacturers, and I am eager to lead our organization in supporting our members. The speed of new product introductions in our industry and the changing regulatory environment in which we operate make the unity of HIA more important than ever, and I intend to capitalize on the scope and strength of our association." He reported that the HIA leadership team would be completed following officer and director elections in March at the HIA 2011 Annual Meeting. Murray succeeds Sam Westover, who left the industry following the acquisition of Sonic Innovations at the end of 2010.
The Hearing Industries Association (HIA) is the national trade association of manufacturers of hearing aids, assistive listening devices, component parts, and power sources. Together, these companies produce the vast majority of the over 2 million hearing aids that are purchased in the United States on an annual basis.
