Marketing is one of the most important activities that a private practitioner may participate in beyond seeing patients. For many years, use of the print Yellow Pages has been considered one of the primary ways to connect with local customers. This has now changed with the advancements in local search capabilities of the search engines and the print yellow pages may be going the way of the dinosaurs. Take a look at the recorded version of my live eSeminar, Connect and Convert: Making The Web Work for Your Practice for more information.
Clinical Nuggets
Dr. Brian Taylor has written another helpful article: Adults with Severe Hearing Losses: Practical Approaches to Making Hearing Aid Selection Decisions. As Brian is a clinician at heart, he provides five different "Clinical Nuggets" that provide a take home message that you can apply immediately with your daily practice and gives a nice review of research in this area.
Expectations vs. Benefit
Continuing his six-part series on the human side of the fitting process, Dr. Don Schum has written on the topic Managing Patient Expectations. While I think many of us do this naturally with patients, Don systematically breaks down the difference between absolute expectations (what a patient should expect) and the potential benefits (goals that may be attainable, but could be elusive) of hearing aids. Additionally, there is a review of tools that can be used with a patient to help educate them on the differences.
Interviews and Around The Web
This past month, our Managing Editor, Dr. Carolyn Smaka has put together an amazing group of interviews. Take a look on the right side of this email to see new information from ReSound, Beltone, Rayovac and Starkey. Also, read about Audiology and SOC codes from an interview with Dr. Carol Flexer. Finally, our Associate Editor, Kristi Albers has put together news from Around The Web, so you can see how the rest of the world looks at Audiology and hearing loss. This includes media stories on the tiny motors in ears, a bionic eye thanks to CI technology, a prosthetic ear implanted on an artist's arm, how Bach had an impressive sized fenestra rotunda, and many more.
Thanks for reading!
