Monthly Review - "Tinnitus Miracle Cure - Act Now!"

Share:

When I started out in audiology, we had limited options to offer patients who suffered from tinnitus. Patients seeking help were told, "There's nothing that can be done - learn to live with it" by their physician, audiologist and other healthcare providers. I wonder if anyone has ever estimated the resources wasted annually on purported "miracle cures" that prey on people looking for relief (the headline of this email was taken from a website I found on the first page of Google search results for "tinnitus cure"). Fortunately, advancements in our knowledge of the underpinnings of tinnitus combined with new developments in technology and patient management have now given us tools to effectively treat tinnitus.

Tinnitus Awareness Week

The American Tinnitus Association has designated next week as Tinnitus Awareness Week, to piggyback on Better Hearing and Speech Month and call attention to the need for tinnitus education and research funding. Here at AudiologyOnline, Dr. Casie Keaton from Neuromonics offers some good ideas on how we can help educate the public about tinnitus, and at the same time market ourselves and our practices - read our interview here.

Tinnitus Virtual Conference, May 14 - 18

Every day next week we're hosting a live expert seminar at noon Eastern/9am Pacific with a leading tinnitus expert, discussing various aspects of tinnitus diagnosis, treatment options, and the business case for offering tinnitus services in an audiology practice. Thanks to Dr. Rich Tyler for putting this outstanding program together. All seminars are free, but seating is limited so register now - click the button below for all the details.

It's great to see all the training and education our industry provides about tinnitus in general, in addition to product-specific support. Check out the resources on AudiologyOnline from companies who offer training, education and products for tinnitus management. In October, the University of Iowa will host its 20th Annual Tinnitus Conference. It's never been easier to get up to speed and deliver positive outcomes for people with tinnitus. If you don't offer tinnitus services to your patients, who will?
