As November rolls around each year we celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday in the U.S., a time when we may pause to think about what we are thankful for. As I sat down to write this newsletter, I recalled the passing of Edgar Villchur last month. The phrase "standing on the shoulders of giants" immediately came to mind. What really moved me was when our Contributing Editor, Dr. Gus Muller, suggested that we republish an article that Edgar Villchur wrote for AudiologyOnline back in 2004, Elements of Effective Hearing Aid Performance, and said that he wanted to write the foreword for it. Gus writes, "This article is as relevant now as it was in 2004. ... Even if you read it before, like good wine, it just keeps getting better". It is a great tribute to this pioneer in acoustics.
Thanks to our Mentors
One of the keys to our profession is how we mentor and inspire others in our field. Even leaders and innovators in the field, such as Dr. Mueller, were mentored and/or inspired by others. At AudiologyOnline, we have been lucky enough to work with so many great people in the field, and it has been a privilege to deliver their virtual mentorship through our online information and learning systems to all of you. Thanks for your participation. We hope that the content we produce provides a positive impact on the professional care that you provide.
More Virtual Mentoring
Dr. Brian Fligor gives a summary on Recreational NIHL, Dr. Appelbaum talks about Precepting and the University Clinic and I wanted to mention something featured last month. Dr. Beyer has a 2011 update on Preventing Medical Errors. As always, these articles are eligible for CEUs that you can obtain though our CEU Total Access Subscription.
News, Information and More Thanks
Thanks also to our corporate partners for the information about products and services, editorial content, and continuing education opportunities they provide on AudiologyOnline. We've included the latest Interviews, News and Ask the Expert questions to help you stay up to date over in the right hand column. Thanks for reading, hope you have a great Thanksgiving!
