Can you believe it's only a few more weeks until spring? We've got lots of great content on AO to help with your spring training and education, whether you're an audiology rookie or you're playing in the big leagues!
Smoke Detectors
Dr. A.U. Bankaitis from Oaktree Products shares the latest research on smoke detectors in this alarming article which is a transcript of her excellent live seminar. I promise that you will change your patient counseling, ALD offerings and maybe even call up a few family members with hearing loss to share the info after reading this article. It includes evidence based tips for choosing the best smoke detectors for your patients with hearing loss.
UDH from UWO
Dr. Mary Beth Jennings from the University of Western Ontario (UWO) discusses design principles that help create accessibility for all, and how the interdisciplinary research team at UWO has applied these principles to create a Universal Design for Hearing (UDH) in her article that's now on our homepage. As she describes how UDH can be applied to support accessibility in the workplace for people with hearing loss, it will get you thinking about the accessibility of your workplace, public spaces you visit and the kinds of solutions that can make a real difference for our patients in the workforce.
AR Conference - not too late!
Our Audiologic Rehabilitation (AR) Conference was a huge success, and a big AO shout out and thank you to Dr. Robert Sweetow for organizing it. All the courses in the conference received outstanding reviews (thank YOU for those!), and the panel discussion was an incredibly interesting dialogue not to be missed! View the recorded courses and panel discussion by browsing our course library and choosing the topic "Virtual Conference - Audiologic Rehabilitation" using the Advanced Search function.
Rayovac's Hearing Professional of the Year and lots of cool stuff from Siemens
I enjoyed catching up with Ann Rule, Rayovac's Marketing Manager, to learn about their wonderful new program, "Hearing Professional of the Year". Please take a read and get your patients voting! Also, Dr. Tom Powers gives us the scoop on cool new product line extensions and software tools from Siemens, so be sure to read up on the latest. Both companies also offer plenty of CEU courses in their AO classrooms - check them out.
Root root root for the home team
Congrats to my teammates, Associate Editors Joanne Slater and Kristi Albers, for completion of their Au.D. programs. In addition to being critical to bringing you all the content I mentioned in this newsletter, they're also the kind of people that you just really enjoy working with. If you see them at the ATSU graduation please be sure to say hello!
Kristi takes us "Around the Web" for some interesting tidbits on how the rest of the world looks at audiology, hearing aids and hearing loss. This month's edition includes hearing aids for the earlobe, OAE's become audible art, hearing aids that make your teeth chatter, NYC mayor shy about new hearing aid and much more!
Now that you've taken the time to read this newsletter, we're a few minutes closer to spring. Thanks for reading!
Best regards,
Carolyn Smaka, Au.D.
