Monthly Review September Line-Up: It's All About Treatment

Share:

Can you believe another summer has come and gone and fall is already in full swing? I want to take this opportunity to tell you about some September happenings here on AO.

This month, it's all about treatment. As you read this, we have a week-long conference underway organized by Dr. Ruth Bentler about various aspects of hearing aid selection, fitting and follow up. Hear from the experts regarding what you should be thinking about in terms of your hearing aid clinical processes to improve outcomes with audiologic treatment. Earn up to 5 hours of continuing education by participating in the live seminars or viewing the course recordings. More info and links to register can be found at audiologyonline.com/hearingaids.

This month's 20Q with Gus Mueller features Dr. Gabrielle Saunders discussing auditory training (AT). There's a top-notch group of investigators studying this issue, and Dr. Saunders talks with our Question Man about their research and the evidence for AT... or lack thereof. No spoilers here though, you'll have to read for yourself at www.audiologyonline.com/20Q. All 20Q are offered for CEUs.

In addition, we have Dr. Don Schum talking about the goal of treatment - helping our patients understand speech - in his most recent text course, as well as an overview of the latest treatment device from Phonak, Lyric2.

Any discussion of treatment today needs to include the telecoil, or as Dr. Michael Valente calls it, "The Lonely Transducer that Can Be a Big Producer." Dr. Valente has a great way of summarizing the evidence that's both practical and entertaining, and we are really looking forward to his live course next week - hope you can join us.

The end of the year will be here before you know it - please consider joining our CEU Total Access program today and getting a head start on earning your required CEUs from these courses and 800+ other live, recorded and text-based courses in our library. We take the responsibility of being entrusted with your continuing education very seriously and I assure you that we will have plenty more great content for you in 2013.

You'll find links to the latest industry news and our Ask the Expert feature in the right hand column. As always, thanks for reading.

Best regards,

Carolyn Smaka, Au.D.
