Linda Bryant, an RIT/NTID faculty member for 28 years, has been named interim associate dean for student and academic services at NTID. Her appointment is for one year, beginning Aug. 1. She is replacing Robb Adams, who has retired.

"Dr. Bryant has the institute experience, administrative skills and energy for this critical position," said NTID President Gerry Buckley, who announced the appointment in an email with Stephen Aldersley, associate vice president for academic affairs.

In her role as associate dean, Bryant will work closely with the associate vice president as well as Katie Schmitz, associate dean for academic administration, and Marianne Gustafson, associate dean for curriculum. She will have responsibility for Career Exploration Studies;the Department of Counseling and Academic Advising Services;First Year Experiences / SVP / Retention;the NTID Learning Consortium;Psychological Services;Substance and Alcohol Intervention Services for the Deaf;Student Financial Services;and the Student Life Team.

"Enhancing students' experiences to meet their physical, social, emotional and cognitive needs is critical to student learning," Bryant says. "I am honored to be in a position where I can cultivate, witness and celebrate our students' successes."

Bryant, of Henrietta, currently serves as the chair of the NTID Learning Consortium and teaches in the Department of Liberal Studies. She previously served as SVP coordinator and chair of Career Exploration Studies. She has a master's degree from Gallaudet University and a doctorate in Teaching and Curriculum from the University of Rochester.

In addition to her current roles, she has been a leader within NTID in piloting distance tutoring and online course delivery. In 1999, she won the Outstanding Service Award from NTID's National Advisory Group, and the year before that, the Deaf Professional Group Award of Excellence.

This spring, Bryant was honored as the 2012 Antoinette Brown Blackwell Society's Henrietta Woman of the Year.

"Linda has proven herself over and over again, as a great communicator, a strong team member, and a passionately loyal member of the NTID community," says Aldersley. "Most importantly, she is dedicated to our students and their success."
