Bloomington, Minn., March 3, 2004 - GN Otometrics, the world leader in hearing and balance diagnostic systems, is providing the educational support for a course entitled, "Best Practices for the Evaluation and Management of Dizziness: A Workshop with Leading Clinicians." Presented by the Department of Otolaryngology, University of Colorado School of Medicine, and sponsored by the University of Colorado School of Medicine, Office of Continuing Medical Education, the course will be held on June 25 and 26, 2004, at the Wyndham Hotel in Chicago, Illinois. It is designed for healthcare professionals who evaluate dizziness in patients including otolaryngologists, neurologists, audiologists, primary care physicians, physical therapists and physicians in related specialties.

A follow-up to a well-received course conducted in October 2002 that brought a variety of health professional together to discuss and debate the best practices for the evaluation and management of dizziness, the June course will focus on the practical aspects of the physical examination, among other things.

"In the first course, we found a great deal of consensus on managing dizziness, yet there was significant debate about the best way to evaluate the patient," said
Stephen P. Cass, M.D., M.P.H., associate professor in the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, and director of both the October and June courses. "Building on the insight we gained from both the presenters and the participants, we've designed the June course to examine and debate, in detail, what goes into a robust evaluation."

The two-day course, for which continuing medical education credits are offered, will include speaker presentations, followed by discussion sessions; panel presentations of cases; and small group demonstrations of important aspects of the physical examination. A primary objective of the course is to provide practical case examples and demonstrations of various important aspects of the evaluation and management of the dizzy patient.

In addition to Cass, the course will be conducted by three leading clinicians: Lorne S. Parnes, M.D., professor of otolaryngology and clinical neurology at the University of Western Ontario; David Solomon, M.D., Ph.D., assistant professor of neurology at the University of Pennsylvania; and Kamran Barin, Ph.D., assistant professor, Department of Otolaryngology and Department of Speech and Hearing Science, The Ohio State University.

"This course will be very targeted and very hands-on," continued Cass. "Participants can expect to gain a great deal of practical information and insight that will translate directly to their own practices."
