Latest Mobile Breakthroughs for Senior Citizens and Users of All Abilities

The M-Enabling Summit, the leading conference and showcase solely devoted to accessible and assistive mobile technology for seniors and users of all abilities, was held in Washington, D.C. on June 6-7, 2013.

The Summit, organized in cooperation with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), encompassed a variety of topics from sectors including education, senior services, rehabilitation, travel and transportation, gaming, mobile e-commerce and emergency response. Leading solutions for physical, visual and speech impairments, hard of hearing, as well as learning and cognitive disabilities were demonstrated. The Summit also reviewed how mobile applications and services leveraging the latest accessibility innovations embedded in smartphones and tablets are playing a key role in rapidly transforming these sectors.

The program focused on mobile accessibility innovations with 150 speakers, private sector leaders, application developers, mobile accessibility experts and disability advocates sharing their experience.

Presenters included representatives of organizations of persons with disabilities and senior citizens, as well as executives of the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), CTIA- The Wireless Association, the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the Worldwide Web Consortium (W3C), the Mobile Manufacturers Forum (MMF) alongside with AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Adobe Systems, Microsoft, BlackBerry, Orange, Freedom Scientific, IBM, Code Factory, Apps4Android and a number of developers of mobile enabled accessibility solutions.
