System includes the world’s most advanced behind-the-ear sound processor and groundbreaking electrode.

VALENCIA, Calif., August 28, 2014 – Advanced Bionics (AB), a global leader in cochlear implant technology and a company of the Sonova Group, announced today that the HiFocus™ Mid-Scala electrode and the Naída CI Q70 (Naída CI) sound processor are now commercially available in Australia.

Partnering with Phonak, the world leader in hearing instruments, AB brings its innovative, industry-leading technology to Australia to help people with significant hearing loss for whom hearing aids are no longer sufficient. The Naída CI processor combines AB’s proven technology with Phonak features that hundreds of thousands of hearing aid users rely on for better hearing in noisy situations. The combination of technologies make the Naída CI the most advanced sound processor available, offering high-performance hearing in all environments, 100% wireless connectivity to consumer electronics, bimodal capabilities that allow streaming to the processor and a compatible Phonak hearing aid at the same time, all with a chic, modern instyle™ design.

The internal component of the AB cochlear implant system includes the HiFocus Mid-Scala electrode, delivering AB’s proprietary current steering technology for hearing that more closely resembles normal hearing. The newest electrode from AB, the HiFocus Mid-Scala array was designed for optimal mid-scala placement in the cochlea with low insertion force to protect its

delicate structures and preserve residual hearing. Featuring the industry’s smallest pre-curved array, the HiFocus Mid-Scala is the only pre-curved electrode developed for the latest soft surgery approaches, including round window insertion, to suit surgeon preferences and individual recipient needs. The patented design allows for ideal placement so recipients have the opportunity to hear the most pitches possible for enjoying music and improved speech understanding.

AB is also the only cochlear implant manufacturer to provide a fully waterproof system, with the AquaMic™ headpiece and the AquaCase™ accessory for use with the Naída CI processor. Recipients can experience any activity in any environment, including oceans, rivers, lakes, baths and showers, without compromising their ability to hear.

“Advanced Bionics technology has helped thousands of people around the world hear their best in any environment,” said Hansjuerg Emch, President of Advanced Bionics and Group Vice President of the Sonova Medical Division within which AB resides. “With the benefits our system provides for people who love to live life fully, we are especially excited to introduce these amazing innovations to Australia.”
