Lafayette, IN - Judith K. Horning, Au.D., has joined the board of the Audiology Foundation of America (AFA) mid-term to fill a position made vacant by Veronica Heide, Au.D., who recently stepped down after six years of service to the AFA to serve on the board of the Academy of Doctors of Audiology. Dr. Horning has been an audiologist for over 35 years. She owned a private practice, Rancho Bernardo Hearing Services, Inc., in San Diego, CA, until 2007 when she founded JKHorning Audiology Consulting, Inc. She now provides forensic and investigative audiology services as well as disability testimony. Dr. Horning holds a master's degree from San Diego State University and earned her Au.D. from the Arizona School of Health Sciences (ASHS) in 2003.
Dr. Horning is a member of the Academy of Doctors of Audiology (ADA), the American Academy of Audiology (AAA), the Hearing Loss Association of America, the American Tinnitus Association, the Vestibular Disorders Association and the California Academy of Audiology, where she served as president in 2003. She has currently holds a gubernatorial appointment on the California Hearing Aid Dispensers Bureau Advisory Committee. In her local community, she additionally participates in Soroptimist International and the Lions Club.
"I've been interested in encouraging and pursuing the audiology doctorate since I first heard about it at an ADA meeting in San Diego 20 years ago," said Horning. "Back then, it really seemed like an 'impossible dream'. Now that it's a reality and I've had my Au.D. for five years, I'm proud to be able to support the AFA in its efforts to promote the degree."
The AFA is an educational foundation whose mission is to empower audiologists to be independent and autonomous practitioners by supporting their educational preparation, professional practice and leadership development.
