Jon Miller Becomes ASHFoundation President

Rockville, MD - February 1, 2011 - Jon F. Miller, PhD, CCC-SLP, recently took office as the 2011 President of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation (ASHFoundation).

Dr. Miller is the professor emeritus at University of Wisconsin-Madison and partner in SALT Software, LLC. Dr. Miller succeeds Nancy Creaghead, PhD, CCC-SLP, who continues to serve on ASHFoundation's Board of Directors.

"It is a thrill to be the President of the ASHFoundation Board of Trustees," Dr. Miller says. "I have been a supporter of the ASHFoundation's work all of my career, and I look forward to challenging every ASHA member to support the next generation of scholars by making a contribution to the Foundation."

Mr. Miller comes to the ASHFoundation's top elected office as a member of the ASHFoundation Board of Trustees since 2007. He served on the Board's Program Committee and helped launch the ASHFoundation's Clinical Research Grant program, which has awarded almost $600,000 since 2008 to advance knowledge of the efficacy of treatment and assessment practices in audiology and speech-language pathology. Dr. Miller is an ASHA Fellow, one of the highest honors of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

In addition to Dr. Miller's election as President, three individuals were appointed to serve as trustees on the 2011 ASHFoundation Board of Trustees;Thomas F. Campbell, Professor and Executive Director of the Callier Center for Communication Disorders, University of Texas at Dallas;Judith A. LeDuc, a private-practice speech-language pathologist in Chicago;and Lisa Lucks Mendel, tenured Associate Professor of Audiology, University of Memphis.

The American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation is a charitable organization that promotes a better quality of life for children and adults with communication disorders. Its mission is to advance knowledge about the causes and treatment of hearing, speech, and language problems. The ASHFoundation also raises funds from individuals, corporations, and organizations to support research, graduate education, and special projects that foster discovery and innovation in the field of communication sciences.

The ASHFoundation is affiliated with the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), the national professional, scientific, and credentialing Association for more than 140,000 audiologists, speech-language pathologists, and speech, language, and hearing scientists. Audiologists specialize in preventing and assessing hearing and balance disorders as well as providing audiologic treatment including hearing aids. Speech-language pathologists identify, assess, and treat speech and language problems including swallowing disorders.
