The October issue of the Journal of the American Academy of Audiology is a Special Issue dedicated to Acceptable Noise Level. Guest Editor Anna K. Nabelek focuses on research conducted at the University of Tennessee concerning whether the utilization of hearing aids can be predicted from measures available before hearing aids are fitted and worn. The research reported in this issue will help provide a better understanding of how people react to background noise and why some people are unsuccessful in using hearing aids despite audiologists' best efforts.
