Allyn & Bacon have released "Interactive Audiology" by Frederick N. Martin and John Greer Clark. This CD represents yet another milestone in new and improved learning processes; a self assessment guided by experts in audiology.
Drs. Martin & Clark have provided a unique and practical clinical study guide via this CD-ROM. Importantly, the CD is an assessment tool, useful to measure your knowledge, strengths and weaknesses on clinically relevant material.
The CD includes 15 chapter topics (paraphrased here; the Profession, The Human Ear, Sound, Pure Tone Audiometry, Speech Audiometry, Objective Tests, Site of Lesion Tests, Hearing tests for Children, The Outer Ear, The Middle Ear, The Inner Ear, The Auditory Nerve and Central Pathways, Non-organic Loss, Amplification, Audiological Treatment) with excellent and reasonable learning objectives and activities such as matching, puzzles and definitions. Importantly, the learning activities are immediately scored and the correct response is revealed instantly.
Additionally, excellent case studies are presented based on typical cases presenting to the audiologist. The case studies are based on refreshingly common and pragmatic clinical presentations.
Perhaps the most valuable portion of the CD are the 18 short "movies" offered. The movies are brief demonstrations of 18 clinically relevant topics. Movie topics include; ABR, Real Ear Measures, Test Box Measures, Manual Alphabet, Otoacoustic Emissions, Tuning Fork Tests and others. If you are looking for a basic, quick, and accurate explanation of what to do, how to do it and why - this is the section!
