Lexington, Ky.— ADA and its Virtual Student Chapter are pleased to announce that the Inaugural ADA Student Business Plan Competition is officially underway. The competition, open to 3rd and 4th Year Au.D. students, will provide a unique opportunity for students to put business and entrepreneurship principles into practice.

“The Student Business Plan Competition was developed by ADA’s Virtual Student Chapter in order to provide students with an opportunity to get meaningful, hands-on business experience, while showcasing their knowledge and creativity,” said Lori Cameron, a 4th Year Student at the University of Buffalo and Chair of the ADA Virtual Student Chapter. “We would like to thank EarQ for its generous support of the 2013 competition, which has enabled us to provide this important experience for future doctors of audiology, and future practice owners and managers.”

The deadline to complete the Intent to Participate in the 2013 ADA Business Plan Competition is April 30th. Please take the following link for more information: https://www.audiologist.org/ada-student-business-plan-rubric.

“The ADA Student Business Plan Competition will provide future audiologists with a learning experience that will foster their entry into autonomous practice in whatever practice setting they choose,” said ADA President Nancy Green, Au.D. “The fact that ADA student members came up with this idea—and made the business case for the competition has me fully convinced that both this competition and the future of audiology will be one of success and sound leadership!”

ADA Business Plan Competition contestants will be required to submit a written business plan using Small Business Administration guidelines. Finalists will receive an all-expense paid trip to the ADA 2013 Annual Convention at the Hyatt Coconut Point Resort in Bonita Springs, Florida, November 8-10, 2013, where they will present their business plans in person to an audience and a panel of judges.
The Grand Prize Winner will receive a $5,000 ADA cash grant to be used to advance business objectives and enhance business and leadership skills.

Business plans will be judged based on the following criteria:

  1. Creativity
  2. Feasibility
  3. Completeness
  4. Cohesiveness
  5. Professionalism and polish
