ICS Celebrates 30 Years of Excellence in Balance

Share:

Otometrics is pleased to announce that this year is the 30th anniversary of ICS, its balance assessment brand. A year-long celebration will focus on the brand's innovative history and provide an opportunity to launch new products that will be unveiled later in the year.

Founded in 1981, ICS Medical broke new ground in balance testing with the first commercial computer-based system for electronystagmography (ENG). The company was the first to integrate computer-controlled optical and caloric stimuli with the recording and analysis system. Its flagship product, CHARTR launched the first Windows®-based system that combined videonystagmography, eletronystagmography and evoked potential in one platform and developed in collaboration with thought-leader Dr. Charles W. Stockwell in 1999.

GN Otometrics acquired ICS Medical in 2000, which added balance assessment to its growing product portfolio. Rebranded as "ICS," the instrumentation continued to be refined, most recently in partnership with Dr. Kamran Barin. These developments led to the Chartr 200 VNG/ENG in 2006 and CHARTR EP 200 in 2009, which in combination create an integrated, comprehensive portable solution.

The future of ICS includes the design of new integrated solutions to help healthcare professionals make the best possible assessment and treatment decisions. Ultimately, Otometrics' goal is to support its customers as they improve the overall standard of patient care across the globe. The company plans to launch several new products throughout the year.

Celebrating 30 years of ICS

Otometrics celebrate the 30 years of ICS throughout the year with company events and activities. The first event will take place at this year's AAA when Dr. Barin make his exclusive presentations at their booth. Seating is limited - so interested participants have to sign up.

Otometrics has achieved many "firsts" since Professor Paul Madsen revolutionized the industry with the world's first electro-acoustic "impedance bridge." Amongst these milestones are the first commercially available ABR/ERA instrument, the first air caloric irrigator, the first REM system, the first PC-based system for electronystagmography (ENG), the first integrated fitting system with audiometry, REM and HIT and most recently the first cross-over clinical audiometer.
