Reston, VA –August 19, 2015—The American Academy of Audiology Foundation is pleased to announce that it will partner with HyperSound® Hearing Solutions to support the development and distribution of public awareness resources in conjunction with National Audiology Awareness Month. Thanks to a gift from HyperSound, the Foundation has underwritten the production of the American Academy of Audiology’s 2015 Myth vs. Facts About Hearing Loss poster and other online tools for use by audiologists and hearing care professionals. HyperSound’s generosity allowed for the complimentary distribution of the poster with the September/October 2015 issue of Audiology Today magazine, and will enable the Academy to distribute additional copies of this educational resource to schools, clinics, hospitals, and other organizations upon request.
Established in 2008, National Audiology Awareness Month promotes healthy hearing, hearing loss prevention, and education about the benefits of audiology care through the creation and distribution of consumer-friendly resources for individuals to use in their practice settings and other public venues. “The AAA Foundation is excited to work with the Academy on this important consumer-oriented project each year, and this fall, we are equally excited to work with our colleagues at HyperSound, as they look for ways to make a difference through philanthropy,” stated Angela Shoup, PhD, chair of the Foundation. “The Foundation seeks avenues to spread the message about hearing care and conservation, and the support from our friends at HyperSound will allow us to increase our impact.”
Brian Taylor, AuD, HyperSound’s senior director, Clinical Affairs, collaborated with Foundation leadership to secure support for the poster project. “HyperSound knows that audiologists are uniquely qualified to diagnose and treat hearing loss and other related conditions, so we are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with the Foundation and Academy to promote October as National Audiology Awareness Month,” he said recently. “Increasing understanding about the causes of and treatment for hearing loss and awareness about hearing and balance disorders is a great public service, and HyperSound is proud of this philanthropic partnership.”
Beginning in early September, you can contact the Academy to obtain copies of the Myth vs. Facts About Hearing Loss poster for use in your community or workplace (while supplies last). Contact Angela Chandler with the Academy or Natasha Anderson with HyperSound for more information. Additional free, downloadable consumer awareness resources will also be available on the Academy’s Web site.
