House Ear Institute and Shure Incorporated Team Up to Provide Free Hearing Screenings at Systems Integration Expo

Los Angeles and Niles, IL -- February 7, 2005 -- Representatives from the House Ear Institute (HEI) and Shure Incorporated today announced an exclusive partnership to provide free hearing screenings to attendees and exhibitors at the 25th Annual Systems Integration. The flagship show for the NSCA takes place March 10 -12 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL. Screenings will be available in booth # 659 and will begin 30 minutes before the exhibit floor opens each day to help accommodate exhibitor schedules. Hearing screenings remain confidential and House Ear Institute personnel will be on hand to offer hearing health information and resources.

The free screenings are an important part of the House Ear Institute's Sound Partners (TM) program and Shure's "Bid for Hearing" program, which raise awareness among audio professionals and the listening public of the impact of hearing loss due to overexposure to sound levels at volumes exceeding 85 decibels (dB). Hearing conservation education among systems contractors is crucial because they are a high-risk group for noise-induced hearing loss.

"The House Ear Institute is proud to be able to offer our hearing screenings and hearing conservation information at the 25th Annual Systems Integration Expo," said Marilee Potthoff, director of marketing and outreach, House Ear Institute. "Systems contractors are an important group of professionals to educate about hearing conservations since the risk of noise exposure can be particularly high for people working in this industry, particularly those involved in live production."

The partnership with the Institute is one of many ways that Shure is demonstrating its strong commitment to hearing conservation among sound system manufacturers, contractors, and installers, in addition to musicians and music fans. The company has also supported the Institute's eBay Hollywood auction and sponsored hearing screenings at a variety of audio industry events. In addition, Shure is a major supporter of the MIX Foundation's TEC Awards held each year at AES, which benefits the Institute's Sound Partners education program.

"Shure's active leadership role in supporting our efforts within the industry is a great example of how audio manufacturers can help us make a difference in the hearing health of their customers and the listening public," said Potthoff.
