Honeywell Safety Products Experts in Hearing Conservation to Present Research, Technology, Know-How at 2012 Professional Conferences

Share:
Smithfield, Rhode Island, USA - May 9, 2012 - Hearing Conservation experts from Honeywell Safety Products will present the latest research, technologies, and know-how on Hearing Conservation programs at three key upcoming industry conferences in June 2012 - American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) Safety 2012, American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) AIHce 2012, and the Audio Engineering Society Conference on Music-Induced Hearing Disorders.

"The outreach is part of the Howard Leight HearForever® initiative, which aims to help employers effectively manage their Hearing Conservation Programs and support an enduring culture of safety for the benefit of their workers as well as their bottom-line," said Renee S. Bessette, COHC, Global Brand Manager for Hearing, Honeywell Safety Products.

The three upcoming programs are:

  • ASSE Safety 2012, June 3-6, 2012, Denver, "Stopping Noise-Induced Hearing Loss in the Workplace," by Brad Witt, MA, CCC-A, Director of Hearing Conservation, Honeywell Safety Products. In the session, Witt will discuss how, despite 30 years of best efforts, noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) continues unabated in many industries, turning many Hearing Conservation Programs into hearing loss documentation programs. He will detail bad assumptions about hearing loss at the workplace and present data from a host of case studies that have succeeded in reducing claims for NIHL.

  • AIHce 2012, June 16-21, 2012, Indianapolis: "Does Handedness or Order of Test Effect Earplug Fit Results?" with Theresa Y. Schulz, Ph.D., (Lt. Col., retired, US Air Force), Hearing Conservation Manager, Honeywell Safety Products, and with Rick Allomong, EHS Manager, ConAgra Foods. The two experts will present — and discuss — the results of innovative testing undertaken at ConAgra Foods to explore the possibility that order biases may be present when, during the process of measuring the fit of earplugs using the Real Ear Attenuation at Threshold (REAT) method, one ear is always tested first.

  • 47th AES Conference on Music Induced Hearing Disorders, June 20-22, 2012, Chicago: "Workplace Noise Regulations in the Music Industry: A Square Peg and a Round Hole" by Robert M. Ghent, Jr., Au.D., Acoustical Test Laboratory Manager, Honeywell Safety Products. With the possibility that stricter enforcement of workplace noise regulations may be on the way for the US audio industry, Ghent will overview those regulations - and their history, enforcement, and implications for the entertainment industry. He'll also review what the US might learn from EU regulations and discuss EU best practices that can be adopted immediately in the US.
The Howard Leight HearForever® initiative — which includes participation in key industry conferences as well as employer workshops, regional seminars, the HearForever.org website, and a host of social media efforts — provides information on the latest advances, research, and discoveries of noise-induced hearing loss detection and prevention to employers. The website, www.hearforever.org, offers an extensive source for educational, informative and motivational materials including articles, case studies, white papers, presentations, and tools to educate about hearing loss prevention at work and at home.
