Share:

SMITHFIELD, R.I., Aug. 12, 2013 — Noise-induced hearing loss might well be the world’s most prevalent occupational injury. But this fall, hearing conservation experts from Honeywell (NYSE: HON) will host a series of free seminars to show how, with the proper education, motivation, and protection, it can also be 100% preventable.

Titled “Howard Leight® HearForever™: Best Practices in Effective Hearing Conservation,” the half-day, morning seminars will help safety professionals improve their workplace hearing conservation programs with practical information on noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL), and the latest research and technologies. The seminars will be held in Oklahoma and Texas in September, and in the Great Lakes region of Wisconsin, Indiana, and Michigan in October.

The seminars are approved for continuing education credit by the ABIH (American Board of Industrial Hygiene). Topics will include:

  • Basics of noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL);
  • Key elements of an effective hearing conservation program;
  • Impending changes to the noise reduction rating (NRR) and how it impacts participants’ hearing conservation programs;
  • Case studies from successful hearing conservation programs;
  • Employee motivation and training techniques and resources;
  • Reducing costs for hearing loss.

The half-day seminars will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at the following locations:

  • Norman, Oklahoma: Sept. 9, Monday
  • Grand Prairie, Texas: Sept. 10, Tuesday
  • Houston: Sept. 11, Wednesday
  • Corpus Christi, Texas: Sept. 12, Thursday
  • Milwaukee: Oct. 14, Monday
  • Merrillville, Indiana: Oct 15, Tuesday
  • Grand Rapids, Michigan: Oct. 16, Wednesday
  • Novi, Michigan: Oct. 17, Thursday

The sessions will be led by Dr. Theresa Y. Schulz, Lt. Col. USAF (Retired), Hearing Conservation Manager for Honeywell Safety Products, the global provider of Howard Leight® hearing protection solutions and founder of the HearForever™ initiative. Dr. Schulz is a past president of the National Hearing Conservation Association (NHCA), and also past chair of the Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC). During her more that 20-year career in the United States Air Force, she was twice recognized as USAF Outstanding Audiologist of the Year. She served as a senior service fellow at the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health’s (NIOSH) Hearing Loss Prevention Program. Dr. Schulz holds a Ph.D. in hearing science from the Ohio State University.

Attendees receive free training materials, literature, and hearing protection samples. They also will participate in hands-on demonstrations of new hearing conservation technologies, including the Howard Leight VeriPRO® fit-testing system for measuring earplug fit, and the Honeywell QUIETPRO® advanced in-ear communication system for high noise environments.
