Home Runs and Hearing Aids 2: Amplification Verification Conference

Share:

Children's Hospital Boston announces Home Runs and Hearing Aids 2: Amplification Verification, a professional conference for clinical, dispensing and educational audiologists to be held at the hospital on Saturday, September 20, 2008. The conference is sponsored by the Department of Otolaryngology & Communication Enhancement, Center for Communication Enhancement.

Home Run and Hearing Aids 2 will focus on verification of the performance of today's advanced digital processing hearing instruments. Not all hearing aid functions may be appropriate for school-aged children. Additionally, since school-aged children are typically provided with FM amplification systems for use in school, the specialized verification of these systems will also be covered in detail. In addressing these issues, presenters Todd Ricketts, Ph.D., Shane Moodie, MClSc, and Leisha R. Eiten, MA, CCC-A will cover topics such as the effectiveness of directional microphones and digital feedback suppression (especially as applied to open canal hearing aids) with a focus on school-aged children, methods for clinical quantification of various hearing aid technologies, the DSL 5.0 algorithm, an overview of the AAA Guidelines for Remote-Microphone Hearing Assistance Technology (HAT), FM candidacy, and more.

The first Home Runs and Hearing Aids conference was held in September 2005 to address the issues important to successful pediatric hearing aid fittings. Children's Hospital Boston is committed to insuring that all hard of hearing children receive care in accordance with best practice policies. Through these conferences it is the goal that all children will be provided with the best possible audiological care.
