Don Calvert, one of our really, really long term employees, and a huge part of our Technical Services Team, wanted to pass on some information to our dispensers. He asked if he could write something for the newsletter. I told him no problem, as long as he was funny. You decide if he succeeded.
Recessed, ri-sest, v. How you feel after 15 minutes of play time at school, and you have to go back inside and learn more stuff.
Embedded, em-bed v. What happens when your mom tells you to go to bed for the third time, and you refuse.
Wrapped, rap't, v. What your momma did to your head when you still wouldn't go to bed.
What's in a name? Well, if you're talking about our Musicians Earplug (Style #49) and what we can do with the filter to hold it more securely, then consider this. We always manufacture this style to allow the filter to sit as deeply as possible in the bowl of the ear (Fig. 1). A variation on this theme known as "embedded" or "recessed" could better be understood as being "wrapped", because earplug material is left around the filter (see Fig. 2). Because of the material that surrounds the outer diameter of the filter, it will actually be more noticeable in the ear and fill more of the bowl area. The benefit is that the filter will be held in place more securely for sports applications where sudden impact could dislodge it.
