Tue, 05/10/2016 - The Fifth annual M-Enabling Summit, the only program exclusively dedicated to promoting mobile accessible technology and assistive applications and services for users of all abilities, will be held June 13-14, 2016 at the Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel in Arlington, Virginia. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will participate in the M-Enabling Summit, in cooperation with the Global Initiative for Inclusive Information and Communication Technologies (G3ict).

Senator Edward J. Markey, D-Mass., will deliver the keynote on June 13. The Senator was instrumental in the passage of the Twenty-First Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act (CVAA), as well as various other laws requiring access to communications by persons with disabilities.

FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler will address the Summit participants and present the FCC Chairman’s Awards for Advancement in Accessibility (Chairman’s AAA) on June 13 from 4:45 p.m. – 5:45 p.m.

HLAA Director of Public Policy Lise Hamlin will chair the panel “Mobile Enabling Solutions: Deaf and Hard of Hearing.” This session will cover the fast expanding sector of mobile apps and services available to users who are deaf or have hearing loss. Lise will also be a panelist in the session “21st Century CVAA Scorecard,” moderated by Karen Peltz Strauss, deputy chief of the FCC’s Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau.

With its theme of “Accessible Technologies and Environments for All,” the 2016 M-Enabling Summit will provide a platform for empowering mobile technologies and focus on next-generation innovations and breakthroughs for users of all abilities. Supported by major disability organizations, as well as industry associations and the private sector, the Summit is expected to attract hundreds of participants from more than 40 countries, underlining the global scope of new mobile opportunities for users and developers alike.

The Summit’s program features more than 120 confirmed speakers representing private sector leaders, app developers, policy makers, mobile accessibility experts, and disability advocates. These experts will discuss accessibility solutions highlighting five major tracks: cutting-edge mobile enabling solutions, Internet of Things (IoT) and smart cities, innovation, inclusive higher education, and scaling up accessibility for business and government. In addition, approximately 25 exhibitors will be showcasing their products and services so attendees can learn firsthand about new and upcoming accessibility innovations.
