HIA Supports State Efforts to Enact Hearing Aid Tax Credit

Share:

As part of an effort to maximize the chances that hearing aid tax credit legislation will be enacted, HIA is supporting local hearing aid dispensers and people with hearing loss in Montana and North Dakota who are working to enact hearing aid tax credit legislation in their states. HIA will focus attention on other states when opportunities emerge;however, North Dakota and Montana both report state budget surpluses that give them some flexibility. North Dakota's legislature first considered a hearing aid tax credit bill in 2007.

The HIA effort includes research on the cost of the tax credit to the state treasury, grassroots support through sample letters at www.hearingaidtaxcredit.org, and work with activists in both states to demonstrate the urgent need for such legislation. The North Dakota and Montana state legislatures meet only once every two years, and for only 3 months - January through March. Each state is represented by federal legislators who will have a direct impact on passage of a federal tax credit bill, Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-MT) and House Ways and Means Committee member Earl Pomeroy (D-ND). As always, we'll keep you posted as we proceed.
