Janice Trent, AuD, fits Rep. Lincoln Davis (D-TN), with a loaner Magnum Ear hearing protection device
As part of an effort to emphasize hearing safety and the shooting sports, HIA loaned Magnum Ear hearing protection devices to participants in the annual Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus Shoot-out in May. More than 20 Representatives participated in the event along with shooters from allied organizations. Janice Trent, AuD, of Hearing Healthcare Services in nearby Bowie, MD, represented ASHA to help HIA with the fittings. A number of hearing health champions participated in the event including Rep. Mike Thompson (D-Napa, CA) who was rated the top shooter in the competition as in years past. Rep. Thompson attended an HIA sponsored AGBell/HLAA/IHS event in Napa, CA in support of the Hearing Aid Tax Credit in 2008, and he was a champion of efforts to exempt hearing aids from a medical device tax that was enacted as part of health care reform. HIA will also support the Congressional Staff Shoot-out in August.
