The Academy of Rehabilitative Audiology (ARA) is pleased to announce the Herbert J. Oyer Student Research Award for 2012. ARA has long supported new investigators and we believe this award is essential to encourage outstanding research in the area of audiologic rehabilitation. The student investigator selected to receive the award will be required present their research at the ARA Institute and submit the work for publication in the Journal of the Academy of Rehabilitative Audiology. The award recipient will receive complimentary registration to the 2012 ARA Institute in Providence, RI, one year free membership in ARA, and a financial award of $1,000.
Applicants are reminded to address all aspects of the "Design of the Research Study" (Number 2, below) in their application. The following are the requirements for application.
- Appropriate topic area.
The research study must be in the area of audiologic rehabilitation, which can include research related to: communication strategies, speech reading, auditory speech perception and training, hearing aids, cochlear implants, counseling, tinnitus management. - Design of research study: (10 point scale for each item with 10 being the highest)
a. Purpose of study stated
b. Experimental hypotheses or questions stated
c. Relevant and current references cited
d. Subject variables
e. Procedures explained
f. Results reported
g. Relevance of results discussed and summarized
h. Professional writing skills and presentation
i. Use of current APA style - Two letters of reference. These should be e-mailed to ARA.Oyer.Award@louisville.edu
- Appropriate student status. Applicants must have been a student when the research was completed, and may be up to one year post graduation at the time of the judging.
