Miami, FL, (July 2003) --- The Hearing and Speech Center of Florida (HSCF), a veteran non-profit United Way community organization, which provides diagnosis and treatment for individuals of all ages with speech, language and hearing disabilities, has appointed Crystal Broussard as the new Clinical Audiologist, and Catalina Tobón as the new Occupational Therapist.

Broussard will be responsible for managing the Audiology Department, which provides hearing assessments, diagnosis and testing; aural rehabilitation, and hearing aid fittings and sales. Prior to joining HSCF, Broussard worked as a clinical audiologist for Ear-Tronics in Fort Myers, Florida. She received a Masters of Art degree in Audiology from Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Virginia and is a certified, licensed clinical audiologist (CCC-A). Broussard resides in Miami Lakes.

Tobón will be responsible for providing Occupational Therapy services, treatments, and programs to the HSCF clients. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and is a licensed occupational therapist (OTR/L). She will conduct evaluations, develop and implement treatment plans, and maintain client assessments records. Occupation Therapy interventions include visual motor, visual perceptual, fine motor, cognitive activities, sensory integration techniques, neuro-developmental techniques, handwriting, ADL training and parent education. Tobón resides in Miami Lakes.

The Hearing and Speech Center of Florida offers a wide range of services and programs geared to both children and adults in its main location in Kendall, and its satellite offices in Miami Lakes and South Dade County. They include speech and language screening, testing and therapy, occupational therapy, audiological testing, parent training programs, accent reduction, English as a second language, and public speaking instruction,'' HSCF also dispenses the current technology in hearing aids and assistive listening devices. Additionally, HSCF provides outreach programs to a variety of facilities throughout Miami-Dade County such as Headstart, Redland Migrant Association, plus private pre-schools, subsidized child care centers, and senior centers. The ''Batchelor Foundation 'Help Them to Hear''' Hearing Aid Scholarship Fund provides economically disadvantaged clients with hearing aids and assistive listening devices.
The Center also conducts the pre-literacy ''Volunteer Read-Aloud Program'' at subsidized childcare centers throughout Miami Dade County.

Hearing and Speech Center of Florida serves more than 4,000 clients annually. Funding is provided through partial support from United Way, private and public grants, services fees, and private funds through the fundraising efforts of Board of Directors. The current annual budget is $1.2 million.
