The Audiology Faculty of the Vanderbilt Bill Wilkerson Center is pleased to announce Hearing Aids '09, a 13-hour hands-on workshop covering current hearing aid fitting techniques to be held October 8 - 10, 2009 at the Center in Nashville, TN.
Drs. Gus Mueller, Todd Ricketts, Ben Hornsby and Bill Dickinson will review the selection and fitting of hearing aids from pre-fitting considerations to outcome measures, with a focus on practical application of the latest research and best practices. Topics include pre-testing to assist in hearing aid selection and satisfaction, prescribing gain and output, verification using speech mapping, as well as an in-depth review of today's hearing aid technology and features to assist in clinical decision-making. Frequency lowering and frequency compression, wireless connectivity, open canal fittings, BAHA, directional technology, noise reduction, feedback suppression, and the latest in signal processing are just a few of the technology areas to be discussed. There also will be ample time devoted to hands-on sessions with new hearing aids and current probe-mic equipment to enable conference participants to maximize the learning experience and to be ready to apply this information to their daily practices. 1.3 ASHA and AAA CEUs (intermediate level, professional area) are pending for the workshop.
This comprehensive, hands-on experience with renowned faculty, provides a unique educational opportunity for audiologists to enhance their hearing aid fitting knowledge and skills. You might walk away thinking that hearing aid fitting is actually fun. Moreover, if tradition holds, Gus and Todd just may conduct one of their noted evening tours of the famous Nashville Honky-Tonks!
