Senator Stabenow Co-Sponsors Hearing Aid Tax Credit
Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) co-sponsored S. 1019, the Hearing Aid Tax Credit, last week. She is a member of the Finance Committee which has jurisdiction over all tax legislation in the Senate. She joins Senator Olympia Snowe (R-ME) as a committee co-sponsor. Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) is the lead sponsor with seven co-sponsors, six of whom are Democrats. AARP has endorsed the Senate version of the legislation which covers people of all ages. The House bill, H.R. 1646, covers people 55 and older and children. It has 109 co-sponsors. HIA and other tax credit supporters are focusing attention on major tax legislation which Congress must act upon in either in late 2010 or early 2011.

HIA and AG Bell staff presented a commemorative plaque to Rep. Dina Titus (D-NV) in her Washington office last week to thank her for her great support of hearing health issues including the Hearing Aid Tax Credit. The plaque features photos and "thank you" letters from AG Bell-Nevada chapter members who hosted the August breakfast for Rep Titus in Nevada. The event, which was sponsored by HIA, attracted a record-breaking 200 local AGB-NV members and friends who were very supportive of Rep. Titus' efforts. Rep. Titus commented on plans to place the AG Bell/HIA plaque prominently in her office.
