Sixth Annual Judith Gravel Fellowship in Pediatric Audiology.

Staefa, Switzerland, September 9 2014 - The Hear the World Foundation is pleased to announce the Sixth Annual Judith Gravel Fellowship in Pediatric Audiology at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in the Department of Otolaryngology at UNC Chapel Hill. The fellowship was created by the Hear the World Foundation in 2010 and is named in honor of the late Judy Gravel who passed away in 2008.

“Dr. Gravel was internationally renowned for her expertise in pediatric audiology and for her many contributions to clinical research and professional service,” said Professor Richard Seewald, a member of the Advisory Board for the Hear the World Foundation. “She is also remembered for her dedication to the advancement of educational opportunities for students and clinicians. With this fellowship, the Foundation carries on her mission."

The Gravel Fellowship is awarded each year to a fourth-year Doctor of Audiology (AuD) student whose externship is completed at UNC Hospitals with a focus on audiological management of infants and young children with hearing loss. The $15,000 award covers the period beginning June 1 through May of the following year in order to help support the student’s educational needs in pursuing a career in pediatric audiology.

2013-2014 Fellowship Recipient

Bernadette Rakszawski, who was awarded the Gravel Fellowship in May 2013, described her experience as life-changing. “I know the experience of working in diagnostics and amplification this year have guided me on the path to a career I will devote to serving the audiology needs of children with hearing loss,” said Bernadette, now a pediatric audiologist at Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital in St. Louis, MO. The current Gravel Fellow, Johnna Tanji, is a fourth year student from the University of Arizona.
