ICS Impulse by Otometrics has received FDA approval.

Schaumburg, IL. - March 21, 2013 – GN Otometrics, the world leader in hearing and balance diagnostic systems, recently announced that ICS Impulse, the first and only FDA-cleared video head impulse testing system (vHIT), is available for sale in the United States. At the heels of this announcement, Otometrics sold its first unit in Nebraska, and ICS Impulse was featured on CBSnews.com as the ground breaking technology utilized for a proof of concept study at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

ICS Impulse is the new gold standard in head impulse testing. It is the only system approved by thought-leaders Michael Halmagyi, M.D., and Ian Curthoys, Ph.D., who are credited with having described the head impulse test in 1988.  An industry first, ICS Impulse can assess and document the vestibular function in all 6 semicircular canals in less than 10 minutes, from patient entry to reporting. The ICS Impulse offers many benefits for otolaryngologists and audiologists who want to improve their patient quality of care and change their workflow to be more fiscally beneficial, as well as neurologists who want to determine if the patient’s symptoms are caused by a central or peripheral disorder.

In March 2013, Audiology Systems, an Otometrics partner, announced the first sale of the ICS Impulse in the United States to University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) where it will be used in a balance clinic soon to be located at the university’s football stadium. UNL plans to collect data on athletes post-concussion.

ICS Impulse will be featured in the Otometrics booth at several upcoming trade shows, conferences and meetings this year, including the American Academy of Audiology AudiologyNOW! Conference in April, and the American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery Annual Meeting in September.   In addition, healthcare professionals joining the renowned VNG-ENG course in May facilitated by the recognized balance expert, Kamran Barin, Ph.D., will be among the first to get hands-on experience with this new technology. More seminars will follow throughout the year.

ICS Impulse is available for immediate delivery. Customers can find their local distributor at www.otometrics.com/contact-us.
