ICS Medical and Madsen Divisions Combine Strengths to Advance Pediatric Hearing
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - GN Otometrics, the world leader in hearing and balance diagnostic systems, is introducing PediHear™, at the American Academy of Audiology's annual conference in San Antonio, Texas, April 3-5. An initiative that combines the strengths of industry leaders ICS Medical and Madsen, PediHear will provide practitioners, and their patients, with a comprehensive approach to screening, diagnosing and managing pediatric hearing loss.
"With universal infant hearing screening becoming mandatory nationwide, ready access to superior screening and diagnostic equipment, continuing education, information management software and patient support is vital for audiologists, ENTs and pediatricians," said Del Bloem, president of GN Otometrics, North America. "PediHear brings all of the pieces of the puzzle together by providing a variety of tools in the practitioner's office, on the Internet and within the professional community."
PediHear is committed to advancing pediatric hearing by developing cutting-edge technology and providing the most up-to-date information for practitioners and their youngest patients. Drawing on the combined resources of ICS Medical, a leading manufacturer of diagnostic systems for otoneurologic testing, and Madsen, the world's leading manufacturer of computerized audiological equipment, PediHear is composed of four key elements: screening and diagnostic equipment, a new, in-depth Website located at www.pedihear.com, software solutions, and training and support services. PediHear's current portfolio of screening and diagnostic equipment is both diverse and comprehensive, and includes:
- Hand-held, lightweight and fully automated - TEOAE, DPOAE, ABR - NOAH and OZ compatible
- Easy connection to any computer, lightweight probe, DPOAE, TEOAE, SOAE, and 226 Hz/1000 Hz tympanometry
- PediABR, automated tone burst audiogram generation, and ASSR technology *
- Real ear measurement with built-in HI-PRO, HL and SPL audiometry and built-in targets
Slated for introduction later this year is an auditory steady state response (ASSR) capability within CHARTR EP. ASSR offers frequency-specific threshold identification, which promises to be fundamental in the habilitation of infants referred from screening programs.
"Developing new, high-tech products is critical to PediHear's mission," said Bloem. "The ASSR capability is a prime example of that commitment. The product under development promises the speed and accuracy necessary to provide practical testing for newborns and infants."
Scheduled to go live on April 3, at AAA, www.pedihear.com, is a valuable and interactive resource designed to provide both practice management tools and patient support references. Information on coding and testing protocols, relevant scientific articles about pediatric hearing issues, regular monthly legislative updates and information about all PediHear products are available to help the practitioner stay abreast of developments in the field of pediatric hearing. Additionally, patient information pamphlets and links to patient support sites provide practitioners with a ready resource for patients' families.
PediHear offers practitioners advanced and unrivaled software solutions for practice management, including integrated product databases for storing and accessing patient files and optional office management systems. It also features simple NOAH interfaces for storing audiometric data such as audiograms, tympanograms, OAE and real ear measurements. OZ, a comprehensive tracking program for universal screening management, is also available.
PediHear provides both onsite training and ongoing technical support for all its equipment. It also offers published testing protocols that facilitate testing and data analysis. Additionally, there are plans to offer accredited continuing education courses in the near future.
"PediHear is the first initiative to emerge from the newly created GN Otometrics that combines the strengths of two of its divisions," said Bloem. "It is a clear demonstration of the benefits practitioners will reap as a result of this business venture."
