Diagnostic Audiometer Boasts Enhanced Features, New Design

Schaumberg, Ill., March 30, 2005
- GN Otometrics, the world leader in hearing and balance diagnostic systems, is introducing the MADSEN Itera™ II diagnostic audiometer at the American Academy of Audiology's (AAA) 17th annual convention and expo, in Washington, D.C. The successor of the widely-used Itera, Itera II boasts a new look as well as new technology.

Itera II features a Hearing Instrument Simulator (HIS), which replaces the Master Hearing Aid(MHA) option of its predecessor. Its new automatic set-up option substantially expedites the simulation process and improves accuracy, as no manual calculation is required. The result is quicker, better feedback to the patient. After completing the audiogram, the audiologist simply strikes a few keys and is very quickly able to set up the simulator.

Additionally, the sound quality of Itera II has been enhanced dramatically. Audiologists are able to hear their patients clearly throughout the diagnostic process due to a sensitive amplification feature, as well as a compression function that ensures constant sound levels in the monitor headset. Easily accessible talk over, talk back buttons further ensure efficient communication between audiologist and patient.

"We've made our well-known and widely-used Itera even better, by soliciting feedback from our customers and making the updates they suggested," said Soren Holst, president of GN Otometrics. "We have enhanced the technology to help audiologists make the best diagnosis and do the most accurate fittings. And, in redesigning Itera II, we also have met the ergonomic needs of audiologists who spend a lot of time working with this instrument."

Itera II is comfortable, easy to use and easy to learn. In addition to boasting a new, elegant look, Itera II features several firmware upgrades. A smart frequency rotary knob provides tactile feedback, allowing the user to maintain eye contact with the patient during the process. Switching between left and right ears is seamless by pressing a single button; double clicking enables both ears, when in speech mode.

To facilitate user familiarity with Itera II and all its benefits, the user manual has been made more reader-friendly. A series of Quick Guides, that address primary functions such as pure tone thresholds, speech, HIS and installation, as well as how Itera II can be customized to streamline the user's workflow thus allowing more quality time with the patient, has also been developed to provide additional handy reference support.
