The AURICAL: A complete, modular fitting solution!
Copenhagen Denmark, May 19, 2011 - GN Otometrics, the world leader in hearing and balance diagnostic systems, was proud to present the successor to the original AURICAL at this year's Audiology NOW! in Chicago. The new AURICAL is a complete, modular fitting solution in a stunning new design. "Building it has been a once in a decade opportunity to bring new technology, new solutions into the world" states Soren Holst, President of GN Otometrics. "The reactions have been ranging from enthusiastic to fantastic. We are happy that we have hit the bull's eye. We have talked to many dispensers and audiologists when we designed it - but it is always a moment of truth when you reveal a new product at a big event like this. People have been eager to get the new device" continues Soren Holst

When Otometrics initiated the project some years ago they started out with 3 concepts. The first concept was a Swiss army knife, a tool with all the features you can dream of. The second concept was called Fitting 2.0 and was a very futuristic approach to fitting of hearing instruments. And the third idea was a concept of a Fitting Friend. "We choose concept number three because we believe that the core of a new fitting solution should be to build the relationship between the dispenser and his client - not come between them."

The future is flexible

Ask Soren Holst what has been the most important insight the company has gleaned in recent years in regards to building that bridge, and he doesn't miss a beat: "The fitting solution has to be flexible. That's the core of our vision for the new AURICAL: The future of fitting as I see it."

The new AURICAL solution provides almost unlimited flexibility. It's both a complete solution and a collection of stand-alone components. The compact lightweight design lets the clinician bring the AURICAL on home visits or move it between offices with ease. Also, whether the audiometer is mounted on the wall, under the desk or on a VESA arm it helps the clinician work closer to the client. "The fitting system should adapt to the working environment of the clinician rather than controlling it".

On the technology front, we've aimed at incorporating tools that didn't even exist a decade ago. Wireless Probe Tube Measurements (PMM) and binaural fitting are just a few examples. "But technology breakthroughs, while certainly impressive and useful, are a means to an end", states Soren Holst.

From one-size-fits-all to have-it-your-way

"We have build the world's first complete, modular fitting solution. It includes an audiometer, a wireless PMM unit, a loudspeaker, a HIT box and the OTOsuite software," continues Holst. "It's both an integrated solution and an impressive collection of stand-alone modular components. Clinicians will be able to use them alone, all together, or combine them as they like. Whatever best suits their clients, their clinics and their way of working. That's something no one's ever offered before." The new AURICAL has received FDA Approval.

Copenhagen-based GN Otometrics is the world's leading manufacturer of hearing and balance instruments and software. The company offers solutions ranging from infant-screening applications and audiologic diagnostics to balance testing and hearing-instrument fitting.
