George H. Nofer Scholarship for Law and Public Policy

The George H. Nofer Scholarship for Law and Public Policy has been established to recognize George H. Nofer's service and generosity to the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (AG Bell) and to the fields of law and deafness research and education. Mr. Nofer, a retired partner of the law firm of Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis LLP in Philadelphia, is a former member of the AG Bell board of directors. He is a co-trustee of the Oberkotter Foundation and served for more than 15 years as its Executive Director.

Scholarship Criteria:

  • Accepted to an accredited law school or masters/doctoral program in public policy or public administration as a full-time student.

  • Diagnosed with a moderate to profound hearing loss prior to acquiring spoken language (hearing loss averages 60dB or greater in the better ear in the speech frequencies of 500, 1000, and 2000 Hz.)

  • Use spoken communication as the primary mode of communication.

  • Have an undergraduate cumulative grade point average of 3.0.
George H. Nofer Scholarship recipients may apply for a renewed scholarship in their second and third years of study. A minimum of nine credit hours must have been completed with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 for consideration for a second year scholarship.

Scholarship Award:

  • One scholarship of $5,000 is available for the 2006-2007 academic year.

Complete and submit a College and University Scholarship Award Application available online at the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing website at www.agbell.org.
