Lexington, Ky.— Five teams, representing five different universities have been selected to advance to the final round of the ADA Student Business Plan Competition. The competition, designed to provide students with an opportunity to gain meaningful hands-on business experience, while showcasing their knowledge and creativity, will culminate with a live big-tent event to be held in conjunction with the ADA 2013 Convention in November.

“The students who were selected to advance to the final round have demonstrated incredible creativity, business acumen and poise,” said ADA President Nancy N. Green, Au.D. “Our expert judges have held them to the same standards as they would any potential new business owner. Regardless of the final outcome, I am confident that every contestant will walk away with knowledge and resources that will foster long term professional success.”

ADA 2013 Student Business Plan Competition Finalists include the following individual/team contestants:

  • Liz Tusler and Rachel Magann Faivre representing Northern Illinois University
  • Lana Joseph representing Washington University St. Louis Medical School
  • Stacy O’Brien representing the University of South Florida
  • Rachel Crout and Lindsay Bush representing Auburn University
  • Dana Matthyssen representing Missouri State University

“We thank EarQ for its commitment to support the student business plan competition,” said Dr. Green. “Through this competition, future audiologists can now gain valuable business skills and the confidence that will allow them to practice autonomously in whatever practice setting they ultimately choose.”

Finalists will receive an all-expense paid trip to the ADA 2013 Annual Convention at the Hyatt Coconut Point Resort in Bonita Springs, Florida, November 7-10, 2013, where they will present their business plans in person to a live audience and a panel of judges.

The Grand Prize Contestant/Team will receive a $5,000 ADA cash grant to be used to advance business objectives, and enhance business and leadership skills.
