Five Exceptional Audiology Students Receive New Empowering People Scholarships

Reston, Virginia (September 29, 2011) - The American Academy of Audiology Foundation (AAAF) is pleased to announce that the following outstanding audiology graduate students have been awarded $5,000 Empowering People Scholarships: Amy Badstubner of University of Florida, Samantha Gustafson of Arizona State University, Alison Kemph of Vanderbilt University, Caithlin MacNeil of Syracuse University, and Imola Major of San Diego State University/University of California, San Diego. Scholarships were awarded to students who showed exceptional promise as clinical audiologists as evidenced by their resumes, letters of recommendation, and personal statements.

The Foundation was able to award such generous scholarships thanks to a gift from the Oticon Hearing Foundation. These funds were raised at Oticon's Empowering People Rock Gala held during the American Academy of Audiology's AudiologyNOW! convention this past April. More than 2,500 audiologists attended this benefit event, and all who participated had a fun evening while supporting this worthy cause.

During the benefit, Peer Lauritsen, Oticon's President, reiterated Oticon's philanthropic commitment to audiology.

The Oticon Hearing Foundation is proud to partner with the American Academy of Audiology Foundation in empowering people who are the future of the profession. By supporting the educational endeavors of students today, we will help to ensure skilled and caring hearing care professionals who share our commitment to empowering people with hearing loss to communicate freely, interact naturally and participate actively.
Over the summer, the AAAF's Educational Grants Review Committee worked diligently to review the outstanding applications received. "The selection committee was tremendously impressed by the quality of applicants for this new scholarship," commented Judith Blumsack, Foundation Trustee and chair of the Review Committee. "Ranking these high quality submissions was very challenging for committee members, and reinforced our opinion that the future of audiology is in not good, but great hands."

The Foundation is delighted to partner with the Oticon Hearing Foundation as it expands its scholarship program. Students who are interested in applying for one of the numerous scholarships now offered by the AAAF can visit www.audiologyfoundation.org for more information.
