Los Angeles and New York - September 17, 2004 - Jennifer Derebery, M.D., the first woman president in the 108-year history of the American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS), and an otolaryngologist at the renowned House Clinic, will be hosting the opening ceremony for the AAO-HNS Annual Meeting and OTO EXPO at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City on September 19, 2004. At this event, Her Majesty Queen Noor of Jordan, will deliver the John Conley Lecture on Medical Ethics to the assembled Academy members. Queen Noor, personally recruited by Dr. Derebery to give this address, has dedicated her time and energy to working with world leaders, international agencies, and patient and victim organizations to raise awareness about the importance of access to quality medical care as a basic human right.

During the AAO-HNS meeting, which runs September 18 through September 22, Dr. Derebery will address residents and fellows, teach a course titled "Diagnosis and Treatment of Otologic Allergy," reflecting her special area of expertise, and serve as a panelist for a seminar on "Women in Otolaryngology." Her activities at this meeting highlight a busy year that included numerous lectures and appearances, setting new records in fundraising for the Academy, and participating in new agreements between the American Academy of Facial and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery and the American Society of Plastic Surgery. Presentations at the 37th Congress of the ENT Brazilian Society in November and the Lebanese Otolaryngology Society in December will cap off her successful term as AAO-HNS President.

Dr. Derebery is the fourth physician from a single organization, the House Clinic/House Ear Institute in Los Angeles, to be elected to this office.
Other House Clinic specialists who have previously served as AAO-HNS President are Drs. Howard P. House, Derald E. Brackmann and Antonio De la Cruz. Dr. Derebery is a member of the Academy's Board of Directors and has held other leadership positions within the organization.

Among her areas of expertise, Dr. Derebery is the House Clinic's full-time specialist for diagnosing and treating allergy-related hearing loss and associated disorders such as dizziness, cochlear hydrops and Meniere's disease and autoimmune inner ear disease (AIED). A leader in her field, Dr. Derebery has received numerous awards for her clinical and research studies.
