Group Specializes In Hearing Services To All Children In Educational Settings

Rockville, MD - September 28, 2010 - As part of a broad agreement between the two organizations, the Educational Audiology Association (EAA) is now collaborating with the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) on the latter's Listen To Your Buds campaign.

The goal of ASHA's Buds campaign is to teach young children how to listen to personal audio technology safely so that they protect their hearing. Campaign resources and tactics include a web site aimed at parents www.listentoyourbuds.org and Buds In The Schools Week, which features in-school safe listening musical performances, lesson plans, and presentations.

"We welcome and are pleased to be working with the EAA not only on the Buds campaign but also in other respects," ASHA 2010 President Tommie R. Robinson, Jr. Ph.D, CCC-SLP says.

"Given the EAA members' great expertise both in hearing and the needs of children in educational settings, EAA's collaboration with ASHA on its Buds campaign is a particularly good fit. It provides an added layer of 'front-line' expertise that is bound to make the campaign even more effective than it has been already."

According to EAA President Charlean B. Raymond, CCC-A "as educational audiologists, EAA is excited to join forces with ASHA on its Listen To Your Buds campaign. It is a wonderful opportunity to teach children the importance of valuing and protecting their hearing, a vital part of their life-long well-being." Raymond says she hopes the Buds campaign continues to gain strength and that "more and more schools participate in this important educational campaign to minimize noise-induced hearing loss in our school-age population."

The broad agreement between EAA and ASHA calls for mutual cooperation with regard to their conferences and conventions, advocacy, communication channels, and member outreach. Besides being identified with the Buds campaign and lending it its members' expertise, EAA will disseminate campaign messages and information.

"Given recent findings of increased hearing loss among the young, working together with EAA on the Buds campaign couldn't be timelier," Dr. Robinson adds. "Another Buds In The Schools Week is coming up in Philadelphia later this fall. We look forward to being able to feature and apply EAA's collaboration to that outreach."
